These are the patch notes for different steam releases of Favor Chess. The most recent patch is shown at the top.


Patch 1.07 (1/8/2024):

  • - Added a new Piece: Pretender
  • - Added a new Token: Curtain Wall
  • - Changed Horde to have a keyword called 'Vanguard' which it shares with Curtain Wall
  • - Fixed a bug where Safari was showing the wrong description text. (The actual effect of the token is unchanged)
  • - Fixed a bug in windows 11 and Mac OSX where the game would fail to finish loading or record settings to the drive.



Patch 1.062 (10/26/2022):

  • - Fixed a bug where private matches weren't loading correctly
  • - Fixed a bug that caused a softlock on some systems where the game couldn't write files to the disk



Patch 1.061 (10/24/2022):

  • - Fixed a bug where the player's first army would be set to a randomized new army after performing certain game modes
  • - Fixed a bug where 'save login settings' was failing to log the player in automatically with saved information
  • - Fixed a bug where a player's army in online matchmaking was ocasionally randomized and could cause a desync
  • - Fixed a bug where crafting a portrait you already owned would display an incorrect error message
  • - Fixed a rendering error on the pieces background in the collection screen
  • - Changed the game reporting to have a longer timeout period
  • - Changed the rules for matchmaking so the player who gets white is fully random



Patch 1.06 (10/17/2022):

  • - Added player portraits. These are icons that will be displayed next to your name in games. You craft them out of pieces in the collection screen with Portrait Frames at the shop.
  • - Added 2 new pieces: Spiked Wall and Dark Tower
  • - Added 'save login information' checkbox so you can instantly login with your saved account if desired.
  • - Added the ability for board edit mode to specify what the starting turn number is, and whether castling and white capturing on turn 1 is allowed
  • - Added icons to the main menu buttons in the game
  • - Added a new fancy animation for creating and destroying pieces in the craft menu
  • - Added a new fancy animation for opening boxes of pieces
  • - Added a logout button in the game
  • - Added the chance for ai challenges to specify a higher starting turn number than 1
  • - Added more notes to the rules changes panel below the turn clocks to inform players when games start if domain, castling, or other rules have changed for a position
  • - Added a fadeout effect to tokens that cannot be used and no longer affect the game while in a match (such as elitism)
  • - Fixed a bug where the player would recieve a random army instead of the position's army in ai skirmish if an army wasn't selected
  • - Fixed a bug where sometimes the daily challenge would claim you'd already completed it today incorrectly
  • - Fixed a bug in board edit mode where selecting a piece from the unit deploy panel would make the base unit go to the wrong display layer
  • - Fixed a bug where sometimes in crafting mode the currency display would disappear
  • - Fixed a bug with the armor block animation that made it slightly choppy
  • - Changed the format for the collection, main menu, play game menu, and ingame scene to be more visually appealing and easy to navigate.
  • - Changed the cost of Bullet Time, Dwarf, Vizier, Druid (-1 favor).
  • - Changed Raider to have 1 more move square (from start location).
  • - Changed the reward for matches based on moves played by increasing gold and experience by 10%
  • - Changed all input text fields and the piece information card to use the serif font instead of arial
  • - Changed the tutorial questline to give about 75% more gold
  • - Changed board edit mode's unit panel to be lighter when placing black pieces and darker when placing light pieces for visibility
  • - Changed the buttons in the Play game/ Board edit screen to all be in the upper left assembled neater
  • - Changed the chessboard and pieces in the Play game/ Board edit screen to be 10% larger
  • - Changed the square coordinates labels to be hidden by default, and appear when mousing over the moves performed list or unit deploy panel
  • - Changed the daily challenge generator to usually create positions with a higher amount of favor than before
  • - Changed the price of 'unlock all pieces' to $70 USD
  • - Changed the square coordinate labels to only appear when mousing over the moves list or piece menu.
  • - Changed pieces in the store boxes to have a glow behind them of their rarity, and no longer drag around when clicked



Patch 1.05 (9/13/2020):

  • - Added 3 new pieces: Backup, Rush Deployment, and Tactician.
  • - Added the ability to set whether the player or ai controls both players in Ai Skirmish, and renamed it to 'Local Skirmish'.
  • - Added the ability to change the player's random favor amount in local skirmish games.
  • - Added a 30% bonus to gained gold and experience from Ranked and Practice matches when the opponent is a player.
  • - Fixed a bug where sometimes the ingame clock would display the time in the wrong format.
  • - Fixed a bug where a minion being moved to the reserve wouldn't trigger Scorched Earth.
  • - Fixed a bug where the ai couldn't use withdraw squares on pieces.
  • - Fixed a bug where sometimes the collection menu's craft screen would display the last selected army over it after switching menus.
  • - Changed armies to allow 2 pieces in the reserve by default instead of 8 (the limit can be increased by Backup).
  • - Changed 'Duplication' to allow 2 extra copies of a champion instead of unlimited. Duplication is no longer unique and costs 3 favor (down from 4).
  • - Changed 'Safari' to be playable with any 3 champions deployed instead of requiring specific ones.
  • - Changed cheaterbot to show up less often in queue than other bots.
  • - Changed the Ai Skirmish settings window layout to reflect the new choices in Local Skirmish.
  • - Changed bots to no longer award rating for beating them on the ranked play ladder when a player is about 1000 rating above them.
  • - Changed the ingame text in over 50 places to be sharper.
  • - Changed the move square symbols to be 15% larger on the unit description card.
  • - Changed the wording on some abilities to be more consistent.
  • - Changed the phrase 'in play' to 'deployed' in piece descriptions.
  • - Changed random armies to more frequently upgrade king when using higher favor, less frequently include scorched earth and stretch time, and less frequently include hasty reserves or duplication when they're not used.
  • - Changed new player quests to award more gold, and added 1 'Backup' to new player collections.
  • - Changed the ingame clock to show 2 decimals for seconds only when a player has 1 minute or less on their clock.
  • - Changed the cost of Lion, Inquisitor, and Bullet Time (-1 favor).
  • - Changed the cost of Cataphract (-2 favor).
  • - Changed the cost of Samurai, Berserker, and Giraffe (+1 favor).

Patch 1.04 (8/11/2020):

  • - Added 3 new pieces: Zebra, Safari, and Bullet Time.
  • - Added an option to disable Domain Victory in Private Matches and Ai skirmish.
  • - Added a reset button to Board Edit mode.
  • - Added a lock icon beside the Army Used dropdown when it's unusable during queues.
  • - Added a bonus of 200 experience on the first daily challenge clear in addition to the gold reward.
  • - Fixed a bug where the last move highlight square was not shown on the origin square of moving a unit in from reserve.
  • - Fixed a bug that would sometimes cause the leaderboard to not load properly when opened.
  • - Fixed a bug that allowed 'load saved position' to be clicked in the play game scene at the wrong time.
  • - Fixed a bug where a player could stop the leaderboard from loading by changing the leaderboard type while it was loading.
  • - Fixed a bug that could cause a desync between two players matched in ranked or practice queue.
  • - Fixed a bug in board edit mode that allowed you to replace a king with the wrong kind of piece.
  • - Fixed a bug in board edit mode that sometimes caused units to not be removed properly after loading a new position.

  • - Fixed several bugs with the in-game AI's evaluation.
  • - Fixed a bug where the 'unlock every piece' feature sometimes wouldn't apply permanently.
  • - Changed the Ai Skirmish Settings window layout.
  • - Changed the Collection Menu to instantly appear rather than scrolling over to it.
  • - Changed the animation for pieces moved during games so that every move animation takes the same amount of time.
  • - Changed Server and System messages to have a different color in chat than normal messages.
  • - Changed Cliffs to automatically remove itself after turn 1 ends.
  • - Changed Golem Workshop to only be usable if you currently have 2 or less golems.
  • - Changed Horde to no longer be unique.
  • - Changed the ingame AI on Confused - Medium to have less variance in moves.
  • - Changed the ingame AI to improve how it uses piece creating tokens, heart of a queen, quick march, sabotage, and rescue.
  • - Changed the ingame AI to evaluate blocked attacks and trades better, and to develop pieces more often.
  • - Changed the size of several text windows in the Play Game scene to be larger.



Patch 1.03 (7/2/2020):

  • - Added Board Edit mode (under Play Game) to create custom positions and save them.
  • - Added the ability to use saved positions in Private Matches and AI Skirmish games instead of armies.
  • - Added 2 new pieces: Ronin and Samurai.
  • - Added CheaterBotA to the ranked and practice queue. This 'Hard Bot' has a random 120 favor army.
  • - Added a leaderboard for number of Daily Challenges completed ingame on a dropdown menu in leaderboard.
  • - Added an event quest for patch 1.03: Login any time before July 31st to get a quest to play 3 games for 2000 gold.
  • - Fixed a bug where sometimes the Daily Challenge window would say a player had completed the day's challenge when they hadn't.
  • - Fixed some of the text during the tutorial.
  • - Fixed a bug where the leaderboard and discord invite window would load the main menu on close if the player was in a queue or custom lobby.
  • - Fixed a bug where the ai could move the same piece twice in one turn with hasty reserves.
  • - Fixed a bug where the ai would evaluate some moves worse on turns when new pieces could start moving.
  • - Changed the ingame ai to evaluate trades better when kings are involved.

Patch 1.02 (11/30/2019):

  • - Added 5 new pieces: Hussar, Maniac, Raider, Rescue, and Golem Workshop.
  • - Added Beginner, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Master badges to unlock based on your Ranked Rating.
  • - Added the ability to login using your Steam account rather than a Javissoft account.
  • - Added the ability to transfer an existing Javissoft account to a Steam account (to use the new login method).
  • - Added a collection percentage that will display beneath a player's rating to show what percentage of a full playset of all pieces they have collected.
  • - Added an event quest for patch 1.02: Login any time before December 31st to get a quest to play 3 games for 2000 gold.
  • - Added a walkthrough for new player accounts to better demonstrate how to get started playing the game.
  • - Added new random daily quests to replace 'Win by Domain', and 'Win by Checkmate'.
  • - Added an ingame display for the all-time high rating leaderboard.

  • - Fixed a bug where the aspect ratio of the unit card in the play game screen was incorrect.
  • - Fixed a bug where long account emails could fail to register and deliver password resets.
  • - Fixed a bug where players would not see new daily quests until they'd loaded the main menu twice.
